Advising for Dual Enrolled Students

New Students

Recently admitted students beginning the dual enrollment program will receive an email with information regarding advisement and next steps.

Students awaiting admission are encouraged to visit the Admissions Status Check page for more information.

Orientation

Dual enrollment students do not attend a SOAR session. Dual Enrollment students are required to complete the New Student Pre-Flight modules (located in the New Student Services tab of their MyGS portal) prior to their first semester of Dual Enrollment classes. This can be completed at your own pace once you have been admitted. Information will be provided by Dual Enrollment academic advisors in the Office of Advising.

Visit Admission’s Orientation website for more information.

Advisement

All students in the dual enrollment program must meet for advisement each semester. One purpose of advisement is to ensure that students are enrolling in classes approved by their high school counselor to meet graduation requirements. A key part of advisement also includes the opportunity to discuss majors and plans for the future.

After you have been accepted by Admissions you will receive an email sent to the email address that you used when you applied to Georgia Southern with information on how to sign up for advisement.

Make sure you have done the following before signing up for your New Student Dual Enrollment Advisement Appointment:

  1. Met with your high school counselor to discuss your dual enrollment course plan. Your high school counselor must submit your approved courses before you sign up for your new student advisement appointment with your Dual Enrollment Academic Advisor.
  2. Completed the student and parent/guardian portions of the GAFutures scholarship application. This must be completed prior to scheduling your appointment with your Georgia Southern Academic Advisor.

Continuing Students

Before Advisement

As a dual enrolled student, you must meet with your high school counselor first each semester to discuss what courses you need in order to fulfill high school graduation requirements.

Your high school counselor will need to submit approved courses to Georgia Southern before you can be advised and receive your Registration Access Number (RAN).

Advisement

You will receive an email from your Georgia Southern academic advisor with instructions on when and how to sign up for an advisement appointment through EAB Navigate prior to course registration.

You can also sign up for an appointment with your advisor at any time inside EAB Navigate.

Learn How to Make an Appointment in EAB

Registration

As a dual enrolled student, you receive priority registration to ensure you have access to the courses you need to fulfill high school graduation requirements. To check for your registration time:

  1. Login to MyGeorgiaSouthern
  2. Navigate to the WINGS section.
  3. Click on Student Information
  4. Click on Student Profile
  5. Click on Registration Notices in the upper right corner

Visit the Wings Registration Checklist page for help with registering and for answers to frequently asked questions.

GAfutures Dual Enrollment Scholarship Application

Dual enrolled students must complete the GAfutures Dual Enrollment Scholarship Application each academic year to receive the Dual Enrollment Scholarship that covers tuition and non-course-related fees.

You must complete the GAfutures application before getting advised for classes. Failure to complete the application could result in having to pay for your cost of enrollment or in removal from courses. If you’re attending a private or public high school in Georgia or attending a home study program, you can complete the application online.

Non-State-Funded Courses

Submit the form to your academic advisor at the time of advisement.

Here are some reasons your courses might not be eligible for funding:

  • You enrolled in a course that isn’t on the GAfutures Dual Enrollment Course Directory (not a core/CTAE Dual Enrollment funded course).
  • You have met or will have met the Dual Enrollment funding cap before the start of the term.
  • You enrolled in a partially-funded course (i.e., a 3 credit hour course where only 2 credit hours of funding remains).
  • You enrolled in core courses in the 10th grade but didn’t meet the requirements for 10th-grade funding.
  • You participated in Dual Enrollment in the 9th grade.
  • You’re no longer eligible for funding due to having two course withdrawals or failing to maintain satisfactory academic progress.
  • You retook a course for which you had already received Dual Enrollment funding.
  • You attended a high school that does not participate in the Dual Enrollment funding program.
Georgia Southern Dual Enrollment Funding FAQ & Scenarios

Textbooks

Students participating in the dual enrollment program are provided textbook rentals for approved courses at no cost. Textbook rentals are not provided for optional texts or for courses outside of the approved course list. Textbooks will not be provided for repeated courses. Textbook rentals must be returned to the bookstore at the end of each semester in good condition to avoid fees. Students are allowed to write in lab manuals.

If you are unsure if the program will cover the cost of the required course material please contact the University Store prior to purchasing. Course materials must be purchased from the bookstore in order for refunds to be issued.

Be on the lookout for an email from your academic advisor for specifics on textbook rental and pickup timelines. Students may pick up textbooks from the University Store. Please note that students must bring their Eagle ID card and a completed Textbook Rental Agreement form to pick up their textbooks.

Graduating Students

Congratulations! We hope you’ll consider continuing your educational journey with Georgia Southern, but either way, we’ve got you covered with the information you need to make your next step.

To continue at Georgia Southern after high school graduation see the steps below. You can also check out the Admissions Checklist for First Year Students on the Office of Admissions website.

  1. Complete the Staying at Southern Form.
    • You don’t need to resubmit an admissions application.
    • You will be required to submit your full schedule of senior year classes on the continuing student form.
  2. Submit an updated high school transcript showing grades through at least the junior year of high school.
  3. First-year students applying to Georgia Southern University through Summer 2024 can be admitted without an ACT or SAT score, if they have a GPA of 3.2 or higher.* Students who have a GPA of less than 3.2 should submit official ACT or SAT scores along with their high school transcript to be considered for admission. Send us official copies of your SAT/ACT scores (if needed) from the testing agency (SAT Code: 5253 / ACT code: 0830). We can only make a decision based on the highest scores that we receive. Please make sure that those scores are up-to-date. If you submit scores and then take the test again, you may submit the new scores for us to review. We will reassess your file and make a new decision based on the updated scores. Writing scores are not required for the ACT or SAT. Georgia Southern will take the highest Evidence-Based Reading & Writing and highest Math scores (or their equivalent from the old exam) for a combined total on the SAT. For the ACT, we will average your highest English, Math, Reading, and Science scores for the highest composite.
  4. After graduation, don’t forget to submit your final high school transcript.

Orientation

Students who continue their studies at Georgia Southern are required to attend SOAR.
